Stage 2 Restoration Details
This is a comprehensive
frame-up project and our most popular stage. All disciplines are the same as a
Stage-3 project, only the materials and finishes are scrutinized to a lesser
degree. If you're planning on riding or racing the bike regularly this
treatment may deteriorate rapidly due to normal wear and tear. If only 1 or 2
short rides a year and you wish to keep the bike looking nice for static
display, this stage is for you. We no longer offer the Stage-1 build. This
would be our entry level choice that can be modified to varying degrees of
finish and equipment selections.
Includes:
* Motorcycle is completely
disassembled, every part and piece is touched and inspected, frame is bead blasted,
prime painted and finish painted with a 2-part polyurethane topcoat or powder
coated. (Special colors other than Black, White, Gold, Silver, Orange, and Red
are additive).
* Plastic side panels replaced
with new OEM parts and background decals installed. If the original plastic panels
are restorable, we prefer this option as they will present the machine
correctly. Depending on machine model, good used panels can be acquired and
restored. (OLD S'CooL does not install replica body parts if at all possible.
Only in extreme cases will this be accepted and only if our parts sources have
run dry).
* Front number plate replaced
with new OEM or restored original if in good shape. Replica replacement follows
same policy above.
* Lower fork legs polished or
texture finished and clear coated. Rock guards installed (optional).
* Fuel tank, if plastic original
and in good shape will be cleaned, sanded and buffed to near-new luster. Otherwise
a new reproduction part will be quoted as an additional item in extreme cases
when OEM parts source has run dry. Steel tanks for repaint (additive).
* Front and rear fenders
replaced with new OEM or restored originals if they are in good shape. Replica
replacement follows same policy above.
* All fasteners replaced with
new zinc plated grade 5-8 steel, Loctite and torqued. If original fasteners are
in satisfactory shape, they will be buffed and Zinc plated.
* Original corroded or faded
brackets, hardware, sprockets, kick levers etc, Zinc, Chrome or Nickel plated.
* All decals replaced
(depending on rarity and availability).
* Drive train renewed
including new primary, secondary sprockets and standard DID ERT2 or CZ brand chain.
(We do not recommend an O-ring chain as they rob horsepower).
* Swingarm chain wear strips,
rollers and guides replaced.
* Front suspension is rebuilt
with new seals and oil tuned to your riding conditions and rider weight. New springs
sized to the same. Fork tubes depending on wear and corrosion will be
straightened, hard-chromed and ground like new or replaced.
* Rear shock(s) will be fully
rebuilt or replaced with new unit(s). Various popular brands are available.
Springs will be custom sized for your rider weight, style and terrain.
* Handlebar brake and clutch
perches and handles replaced with new OEM or equal. New grips and throttle
twister installed. Handlebars restored if originals in good shape or replace
with aftermarket alloy bars of your choice.
* Brake, clutch and throttle
cables replaced with OEM or other brand.
* New brake shoes front and
rear installed
* Seat recovered with aftermarket
replica product as OEM seat covers are extinct. Custom covers available upon
request.
* You may supply a rebuilt or
sound running motor if you like. Or we will rebuild the existing motor to your
specifications or we can make performance recommendations and choices for you
to consider. Reed valves, head milling, transmission gear ratio changes,
stuffed cranks, all these and more are at our disposal.
* Rebuilt or new carburetor
installed and jetted for sea level and up to 2000ft elevation.
* Expansion chamber completely
restored removing all dings. Porcelain painted black. Nickel or chrome plate
options are available. Silencer repaired, re-packed or replaced with original
or alloy aftermarket unit.
* Engine cases buffed,
stripped and painted as needed. Cylinder and head are glass bead-blasted clean
and bare or repainted with hi-temp black.
* Wiring harness dressed out
as necessary.
* Field test of machine
checking all systems. Engine is heat-cycled, tuned and broke in ready for you
to ride when you take delivery.
* Major parts and services are
additive and may be purchased directly by you provided they meet our quality
standards prior.
** Included is a CD recording
the pictorial and daily progress report of your bikes work in progress with detailed
technical information. Complete photo gallery of your Stage-2 restoration from
beginning to delivery shall be included.

Stage 3 Restoration Details
This is a frame up restoration
including Stage 2. This stage is reserved for the critical inspector! A
restoration of this magnitude can run up to approx 18 months in duration,
Here's why: The project will require a complete study of its background history
plus a materials and outside processing analysis. All details are gone over
with you to ensure complete satisfaction of the build and its outcome. Our
strictest quality standards will be in force on Stage-3 projects. This stage
requires the restoration artist to pay extra-close attention to original finish
details such as color and composition of paints and coatings, factory bare
metal finishes, correct wiring harness layouts, NOS (new old stock) part
replacements wherever possible to original specifications and many more details
we cannot describe here. The motorcycle needs to be in our possession for full
inspection and evaluation.
Includes:
* Everything in Stage-2 plus,
* Wheels replaced and re-laced
with new rims, spokes and nipples, or period correct original equipment that is
new or polished. OLD S'CooL will only use original parts if they are of sound
quality and can be restored to static display quality. Reconditioned spokes are
not to be used for dirt or highway as they will turn brittle from the
re-chroming process and are dangerous to the rider!
* Bare aluminum engine cases
and cylinders will be polished, bead blasted or solution deburred for
authenticity of the aging process.
* Original OEM tires will be
installed if available. Otherwise a list of tire choices will be submitted for
selection.
* Expansion chamber/silencer
will be completely restored or replaced with OEM original equipment. In some
cases replica exhaust systems may be produced. Powdercoating of pipes is not
utilized.
* Shop tested to ensure basic
functional order including sound cylinder compression and ignition spark and
timing. We do not field test Stage-3 projects at this time. Should the customer
decide to do so, he or she may do so at his/her responsibility of assuming all
rework of machine finishes at his/her expense.
* Full detailed cleaning for
your inspection and presentation.
NOTE: If your Stage-3 project
is to be entered into 100 point contests, an all points inspection sheet will be
developed and gone over with the collector and machine at time of delivery. Stage-3
projects should only be shipped in a enclosed package inside a box
trailer/truck. They may also be will-called.
NOTE: All Stage-3 machines are
considered collector pieces not intended for personal use or service in the
field or highway. They are strictly built and intended for "static
display" by OLD S'CooL Restorations.
